Why your Store Design and Layout Matter?

Store Design Layout

If you are about to open a new retail shop or you have a shop you want to renovate, you will want to make sure you capture your customer’s attention with the products you put on display. To do that you must start with the layout of your store. The store design and layout do not just tell your brand story but they also create an immersive shopping experience for customers. Before you start dismantling any walls, understand how optimizing your floor layout can improve shopper experience and lead to greater profitability.

Here’s how a store design and layout contribute to the uniqueness of the store:

1. Floor layout that fits your business: There are several kinds of floor layouts like straight floor plan, racetrack or loop plan, and geometric floor plan to choose from. It is important that you keep your business in mind when making a choice. A grid layout is usually used by the grocery whereas high-end brands use the angular layout as they have select items to display.  On the other hand, departmental stores have a free-flowing layout so that customers can move around freely and buy whatever they like.

2. Welcoming entrance: If your storefront is not appealing and welcoming, then the in-store layout will not be able to bring in customers. For people to take notice of your store, make sure the entrance is attractive. Make sure you display a few products at the entrance to entice people to come in. The entrance display gives a peek into what kind of products you sell and what your brand stands for.

3. Better visibility: It’s okay to have shelves packed with merchandise but at the same time you need strategically located merchandise outposts to display your best products. They can either be at the center of the store or between the aisles. These merchandise outposts encourage impulse purchases.  However, it is essential to give space to customers to walk around without too many speed bumps.

4. Appropriate counter size:  There’s one thing that is disappearing from the world of retail is a counter. The absence of a counter allows customers to explore products on their own without having to ask anyone to take products out for them. However, counters are important for billing and paperwork. Depending upon the nature of your business, you can get it customized to your requirement.  If you run a grocery store, a counter that allows the customer to put their bags and personal belongings would be appropriate. If it’s a mobile store, then you may not need a wide counter.
